Default Democrats Target Private Retirement Accounts

Nothing is sacred. Your 401(k) and other private retirement accounts are not likely to help you support yourself when the going gets really tough ...

I read that a few days ago on another forum and, judging by the response on that board, really believe this would be a trigger event. In my opinion they will eliminate the 401k deduction and only allow use of after tax dollars.

More of that journalist's work can be found at:

I wonder about McMahan's objectivity however. She writes semi-editorial pieces.

401ks are already useless anyway with the economy.

Smells of more fear-mongering.

Fear mongering or testing reaction?

Fear-mongering.

I never could put much in my 401k. I'd much rather stash money in a lockbox than put it into the stock market or a bank.

I honestly believe it is a test of reaction. There's a lot of money in 401k's and IRA's. We are always told we need to save for retirement and now the government wants to confiscate it? If they see that the people will lay down and give up the money they will do it.

That article was written before the election. I chalk it up to another Republican scare tactic. As soon as they mentioned the Heritage Foundation I stopped reading.
