How to survive a nuclear attack
From the EXCELLENT TED Talks website, Irwin Redlener discusses the risks of sudden nuclear attacks and how to survive.
He also manages to use a bit of humour in his speak... http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/i...terrorism.html As you are in the TED Talk site - do check out others of the fantastic speaches (like this one, about US news coverage) - they are all good. My second drug after Avalon...No third, after Avalon and fluid organic solvents...come to think of it; forth...anyway...check it out. Last edited by I_Am; 09-17-2008 at 08:40 AM. |

If Bill Deagle should be proven right - that TED video might be a good thing to look through...

And here I was, thinking: "I should find some resources about surviving a nuclear attack..."
Thank you! |

Re: How to survive a nuclear attack
There are a lot of good links out there, this is one of them:
www.KI4U.com There are also many designs on the 'net for simple bomb shelters you can make and put in your backyard if you can just dig the hole big enough for it. There are also really fancy ones that cost $30,000 or more (but who has that kind of money?). The most important thing people need to realize is that a good 95% of people will survive a nuke attack, but that percentage drastically goes down for people who are not prepared with KI, a way out of the polluted zone, and food/water to live on once the infrastructure is down. |

Re: How to survive a nuclear attack
Hehe. Not a bad parody of that original idiotic Duck and Cover-movie from the 50's.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei256...eature=related Of course this threat is nothing to joke about, on the other hand; sometimes one really have to be able to laugh about the misery, just to breathe. Let us hope and pray that there never will be any use of atomic bombs, but more so - stop those who reasons and believes that sometimes they must have the strategic option to use them and include the use of nukes in their standard military doctrines: worst are of course as usual US. Who also happen to have by far the most useable nuke by numbers and megatons, and also has written in their doctrines that they might, just might, have to strike first (sic). Then: if there exists stray nuclear material, and boy, do there exist such ****, then there is very, very likely that some organisation will use it. Finally: there is according to many sources, spanning from military watch organisations, awakened persons (like Alex Jones, Camelot, etc) to psychics a major and imminent risk that one or many nukes will be used as a false flag op inside US or Europe. If that ever will happen: remember that it is possible to "fingerprint" the distribution of different isotopes used, so one may track the source. I bet it will be an US bomb, if any. Quote:

Re: How to survive a nuclear attack
i cant say their will definitely be a nuclear holocaust but keeping open minds is the best form of prevention of its manifestation.

Re: How to survive a nuclear attack
My father was one of the first servicemen to enter Hiroshima after the horror of the bomb - he took photos [black and whites] which were stark in their record of the utter annihilation wreaked by these monstrous weapons. I would like to tell people of a banned docu-drama called 'Threads' which can be found in the usual places on the net. This work is uncompromising in portraying the affects upon England of a 30 megaton atomic bomb upon the city of Sheffield. Those few who survived the attack faced a future which was bleak and dreadful. I suggest people have a look at this work before they make plans to survive a nuclear attack - and pray that it never comes to pass.

Re: How to survive a nuclear attack
Astro - you are soo right.
All we can do is praying and affirming that those idiots in charge of the nuclear weapons and those who really believe that a "limited" nuclear war can be overcome or even won don't act upon those retarded believes. And spreading the firm opposition against those forces. Regards |

Re: How to survive a nuclear attack
Kennedy alluded to the fact (he was quoting Khrushchev?) that the living would envy the dead in the event of a nuclear war. I tend to think they are right. The trick to surviving a nuclear attack is to prevent it in the first place.

And of course, duck and cover.
Sorry...couldn't help myself. Kennedy was right on that as well. And as all who have been preaching peace and understanding (Gandhi, Lennon, Kennedy etc) he was killed, of course. |

Re: How to survive a nuclear attack
"About Irwin Redlener
Dr. Irwin Redlener spends his days imagining the worst: He studies how humanity might survive natural or human-made disasters of unthinkable severity." This man attempts to make humor out of the preparedness that 50's & 60's schoolchildren exercised by getting under desks during an fallout warning, then goes on to say that you can hide out in a building until the fallout fades or blows away. Lol! I find his attitude quite assertive on some really wild ideas masquerading as facts. He explains the high degree of training & preparedness that "terrorists" posess. This is quite a laughing matter. Some simple common sense logic can be employed here: 1. He makes it sound easy to manufacture and detonate a nuclear device out of as little as 75 pounds of enriched uranium or 13 pounds of plutonium. The only problem here is the extreme level of mechanical precision, tooling, high explosive techniques, and design needed to succeed at fission. Way underestimated IMHO. 2. He comes across as extremely knowledgeable in surviving a nuke incident without really explaining what would happen after the event. No, you would not be allowed to walk away from that area by our govt. He makes fun of fallout shelters then tries to claim that you can survive the after effects by going into a building 10 or more stories to avoid the radiation, or below ground "until the radiation is gone". Hmmm, are you prepared to dine on cockroaches for 3-6 weeks with no water? 3. Then comes the most absurd statement "you want to go downwind as quickly as possible". My God. I don't quite know what to say about that except that it is absolutely WRONG to go where the fallout will end up. DUH!! Seems like a kind of mental manipulation in some weird way. Urban areas that are bombed with nukes are going to kill quite a lot of people. I agree that the best way to survive a nuclear attack is prevention. Another excellent way is to move from the big cities and defense contractor areas to more rural areas. Having a bomb selter isn't stupid or excessive - it's mere pragmatism and the fact that it would probably be used to avoid mass arrest or to store food & water rations makes it even more worthwhile. Of course, dwelling on such mass destruction brings it that much closer to a possible reality. We can easily avoid it by focusing on the positives. |
