Nissan (UK) to shed 1200 jobs
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wear/7818043.stm
Nissan plant to shed 1,200 jobs The plant employs 4,900 workers Car manufacturer Nissan has announced it is to axe about a quarter of the workforce at its Sunderland plant. The company, which sent workers home early before Christmas to cope with the economic downturn, said it will cut 1,200 jobs. The plant, which opened in 1986, employs about 4,900 workers. The firm halted production of two of its models at the Sunderland site in December when its production staff were sent home on full pay. 'Devastating news' Those to lose their jobs include 400 staff on temporary contracts. Derek Simpson, joint general secretary of the Unite union, said: "This is devastating news for the workers and their families. "Today's announcement shows just how serious Britain's economic difficulties are. "Unite will be doing everything possible to minimise compulsory redundancies and it is absolutely crucial that these workers' skills are not lost." |

Re: Nissan (UK) to shed 1200 jobs
Hi Colin,
That looks grave, in Sunderland too. The grave thing is not necessarily the jobs lost, but the way the union is doing nothing about it (not that it can do much anyway). This suggests that the union bosses know how hard the economic crisis will hit, unlike their American cousins who insist on screaming and shouting instead of trying to find a useful solution. It will be interesting to see what the union will try to do for the 800 permanent contract workers. This mixed with the lowest interest rates in all of its' existence from the Bank of England suggests more hard times ahead. Best regards, Steve Quote:

Re: Nissan (UK) to shed 1200 jobs
With the world auto industries in a spiral downturn, these layoffs seem enevitable? I'm hoping even with the NWO taking its hard grip upon the world> these industries will be able to switch over (of course with Government help) to new Green industry > ideas and products? Even the Dark Ones, don't want a complete economic breakdown?
Or do they?? |

Maybe they don`t care about the auto industry lets face it they would prefer to have a less mobile public when and if they try to launch their plan
