http://www.theage.com.au/world/mps-s...0322-95o5.html MPs spaced out over UFOs London March 23, 2009 BRITAIN'S Defence Ministry was so alarmed by reports of a UFO sighting nearly 20 years ago that it took the unusual step of briefing ministers, according to secret files. Other incidents in the files, which the National Archives released yesterday, include a woman who claimed an alien with a "Scandinavian-type accent" approached her. The seven files were compiled between November 1987 and April 1993 by the Defence Intelligence staff in the Ministry of Defence and include details of about 1200 UFO (unidentified flying object) sightings. The ministry was handed negatives of a photograph showing a large diamond-shaped object hanging in mid-air for about 10 minutes before climbing at high speed. It was taken on August 4, 1990. "Such stories are not normally drawn to the attention of ministers," an official noted in a memo included in the file. "On this occasion, however, the MoD (Ministry of Defence) has been provided with six photographic negatives of an alleged UFO by the Scottish Daily Record and has been asked for comments almost certainly for inclusion in a forthcoming story." The official added that ministers should tell the media that "no definite conclusions (were) reached regarding (the) large diamond-shaped object". Among the other files released were details of an anonymous female dog walker who said she met an alien who claimed extraterrestrial life was responsible for crop circles. The woman, who telephoned the Royal Air Force to relay her experience, said the incident happened on November 20, 1989, while she was walking her dog on a sports field. She said she was approached by a man who spoke with a "Scandinavian-type accent" and wore a brown garment that resembled a flying suit. He told her the alien visit was friendly. An English schoolgirl claims to have seen a UFO after filming a pulsing ball of blue light close to an RAF base at the weekend. Harriet Rogers captured the spherical shape on camera as it moved across the night sky and started to change colour. She then jumped in the car with her father and followed the glowing ball as it hovered high above her house, about 12 kilometres from RAF Cosford in Shropshire. The pair watched as the light pulsed like a heartbeat, became brighter and then disappeared over the horizon 20 minutes later. AFP http://nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos |
