I no longer fear death from flying after more than 4,000 flights i have taken to weird parts of the world on third world business over nearly three decades. It was a privilege to fly to these regions (though some of these areas are unreachable now..thank you george bush)

It is rare to find the plane doesn't make it. If it doesn't assume malicious intent. Unless you fly (like i did many times) third world jets where anything is possible because maintenance was neglected.

I have experienced several incidents which were scream inducing, but i'm still alive.

How about we start a thread on freaky flying experiences??

Yeah piers, I was a frequent flyer on three different airlines at one time a while back and I remember losing cabin pressure over Denver and all the oxygen masks came down, and the pilot took and immediate nosedive and a hard right turn to land at Denver. All I could think of was man I hope they're watching out for the tops of the rocky mountains as we were nosediving closer. LOL!

Dan, thats freeky.

In addition to the actual FLIGHTS, it was always a serious trial getting through third world airports..the relief when you actually boarded the plane was amazing.

And when you were airborn, the sound of a western pilots voice was bliss...though it wasn't too often. If that sounds racist it isn't intended, but you got to be real here.

Man Piers, I'll really have to pick your brain when at the bury of the ave!
I'm already thinking how longs Miso keeps but I think I have to forfeit that idea.

I really felt dodgy already when landing in Osaka. "Foreigner? That end of the room!"

But it was nothing compared to Russia and those mean looking soldier types all over St. Petersburg airport.
4000 flights! Unbelievable. The airlines must love you. What about the stewardesses?
I love flying but landing always gives me the thrills.
