Starry Messages: Searching for Signatures of Interstellar Archaeology
The search continues... First stop, the 'cigar' on the moon?? It seems more complementary (to SETI) to me, than an alternative. Anyway. Obama also just announced NASA cutbacks (no more astronauts to the moon).
Starry Messages: Searching for Signatures of Interstellar Archaeology Richard A. Carrigan, Jr., Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Summary Searching for signatures of cosmic-scale archaeological artifacts such as Dyson spheres or Kardashev civilizations is an interesting alternative to conventional SETI [Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, which searches for radio waves]. 26pp http://www.fas.org/spp/eprint/starry.pdf Dyson spheres ? Kardashev civilizations ? ... Are the spheres the ones around the sun right now? |

Re: Starry Messages: Searching for Signatures of Interstellar Archaeology
I think the thread about those spheres seen on STEREO images was referred to as Dyson Spheres on one of the YouTube vids posted.
Kardashev civilizations is based off of the kardashev scale, which attempts to describe the types of civilizations and their grasp of technology. We are considered Type 0-civilization from that scale. One of the threads mentioning the creation of new universes from IndiaToday, referred to Type V-civilizations as advanced enough to harness and control the power of universes. So I guess what he means is that we should try to expand the search for extraterrestrial life beyond that of radiowave technology, as it is more likely that beings out there use more advanced forms of communications. Could be that simple radiowaves are long forgotten to them? |
