Copenhagen climate summit negotiations 'suspended'

The African delegation is unhappy over moves by the Danish government

Negotiations at the UN climate summit have been suspended after developing countries withdrew their co-operation.

Delegations were angry at what they saw as moves by the Danish host government to sideline talks on more emission cuts under the Kyoto Protocol.

As news spread around the conference centre, activists chanted "We stand with Africa - Kyoto targets now".

But talks between the parties were expected to resume in the afternoon and informal discussions continue.

The countries that have suspended co-operation are those which make up the G77-China bloc of 130 nations. These range from wealthy countries such as South Korea, to some of the poorest states in the world.

The G77-China bloc speaks for developing countries in the climate change negotiation process.

Blocs representing poor countries vulnerable to climate change have been adamant that rich nations must commit to emission cuts beyond 2012 under the Kyoto Protocol.

global warming, global cooling, corporate and gov scientists debating which is which and posturing to promote their own views in search of cash or needing to be proven RIGHT....

anybody ever stop to think that maybe it is both? that it's symptomatic of unbalance and nature is dying?

I think that climategate is symptomatic of what's happening with government and has nothing to do with the environment. The point is that we've gone as far as we can with our system of fractional-reserve banking, warring clans of governments, and industrial agriculture. The system came with an expiration date when it was created some 80 years ago.

The Copenhagen Treaty is their version of Act 2, kind of like the massive restructuring that happened after the great depression and WWII, except that this is an even more major restructuring because we have 6.5+ billion souls here and everything in terms of laws and technology are much, much more complex.

Yes, we are trashing the environment. But, there really isn't too much we can do about it within the current system. If you do any of the research on things that most people hold to be green or "good" for the environment, they are only superficial at best. Consider the idea of buying a hybrid car or recycling. On the surface, the hybrid gets very good gas mileage, but the reality is that for most people the majority of their miles driven are highway miles and the car is running on gasoline like any other vehicle. Likewise, recycling is good, but how much of it is actually reused or not wasted? Another item is these small incremental energy improvements in products -- i.e. the new refrigerator is 10% more energy efficient than the old model, but if you throw away your old refrigerator to buy the new one, you're wasting even more energy than if you keep your inefficient one.

There are real movements like the Tesla motors car or the who killed the electric car lessees. There are also real free energy devices and some very good ideas like the idea of removing planned obsolescence from new items for sale and re-designing them so they can be upgraded like people used to do with their computers. If you research these, the only reasonable conclusion is that they can't exist under this paradigm.

Don't fall for the BS that people caused the global warming. This is just a meme to attach to our already encoded meme about religious sin. We don't need to feel guilty for existing, breathing air, and living our lives.

This is an auspicious topic because the old paradigm is dying. The question is what we will replace it with.

President Obama's mission to save the planet from global warming could end up trampling on the U.S. Constitution, critics say.

When Obama arrives in Copenhagen Friday, he is hoping to cut a deal on a new global-warming agreement. Even though the conference is not likely to produce a legally binding deal, critics say if the president signs an international climate treaty pledging reductions in carbon emissions, he will violate the Constitution.

"President Obama cannot bind the American people to job killing international agreements on climate change without the advice and consent of the United States Senate," former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich wrote Wednesday at the conservative Web site Human Events.

The Constitution states that the president cannot sign treaties without the approval of two-thirds of the Senate, or 60 senators.

A new report reveals a British scientist and Wikipedia administrator rewrote climate history, editing more than 5,000 unique articles in the online encyclopedia to cover traces of a medieval warming period – something Climategate scientists saw as a major roadblock in the effort to spread the global warming message.

Recently hacked e-mails from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit expose a plot to eliminate the Medieval Warm Period, a 400-year era that began around A.D. 1000, the Financial Post's Lawrence Solomon reports.

The warming period is said to have improved agriculture and increased life spans, but scientists at the center of the Climategate e-mail scandal believed the era undermined their goal of spreading concern about global warming as it pertains to today's climate.

Solomon noted the warming period presented a dilemma long before the Climategate e-mail scandal.
