Those that leave before 2012

Ok this is a tricky one I've been thinking about for a while now.
If we are supposed to reach a higher level in 2012 and leave our bodies behind, will we be in the same place as those that died before 2012? Or will we have to wait until we die there before we meet our friends again??

I'm excited about making the jump if I make it that far but dont want to go there without my girl who died back in 92, I'd rather be where she is.
