NATO allies to call on US to remove nuclear weapons from Europe

Five NATO member countries will call on the US "in the coming weeks" to remove all remaining nuclear weapons from European territory.

Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway will soon demand the removal of numerous US nuclear warheads left over from the Cold War, the Belgian Prime Minister’s office has announced on Friday.

"The Belgian government and the four countries concerned will offer in coming weeks, that atomic weapons on European soil, property of other member states of NATO, should be removed," the spokesperson said, adding that: "This is an issue related to the start of the debate at the heart of NATO".
