Obama was talking about a civilian corps to re-build infrastructure, not police people. Last edited by Humble Janitor; 11-12-2008 at 01:36 AM. |

Thank you I was just going to post that. Beware of what you read and hear, discern information and consider the source. Why is there such an effort to villify Obama before he has even taken actions, because someone fears him and that gives me HOPE.

I agree with the Humble Janitor - the congressman cited in that article hasn't really done his homework. What Obama wants to do is have a tactical civilian corps to deploy nationally or internationally. The military can nock em' down, and this new organization would set em' back up. Of course Bush is going to agree with that - it would have been nice to have something like that in place before the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, huh?

Are you sure of this? Any evidence? You read it one way and others read it another. Just because a republican (or democrat for that matter) says something doesn't itself make it true or false. That's pretty poor reasoning imo. Do your homework yourself, and don't watch the damn tv news. I'm sorry to say that we still need to be just as vigilant w/ Obama as we've been w/ Bush 43 or Clinton or Bush 41 or anyone in this position w/ these powers. People here are quick to "villify" (as some have classified info of this sort) or question (as I would put it) perhaps because this has still gone unexplained by BO or his campaign. Anyone have anything official explaining this? I'm all for hope, but not blind faith. People seem to think that "Well the dems are my party, so they must want what's best for me". Not so. They (most politicians) want what's best for them (a powerful job and $), but part of what's best for them is having you believe them. I only ask that you do your homework as I will now provide Barak's actual July 2nd quote (so he is the source here) that is driving this issue. Here is the entire speech. (16:45) "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." He seems to have separated the social service aspect from the security aspect. It's questionable as to what this security forces' s.o.p. would actually be (because Obama's campaign hasn't addressed this in full yet), but this sounds like he's calling for a civillian force that would be used on or for the citizens. Umm, don't we have something like that? Oh yeah the police and public works. Oh and the national guard too. So what exactly do we need this for. That quote is of only slightly lesser importance than this next Obama quote from the same speech. I think it shows what Obama's is really preparing us for. More war. (12:39) "But we need to ease the burden on our troops, while meeting the challenges of the 21st century. That’s why I will call on a new generation of Americans to join our military, and complete the effort to increase our ground forces by 65,000 soldiers and 27,000 Marines." That doesn't sound like he's planning on laying off the whole war initiative that has become synonymous w/ presidents. It doesn't sound like he's reversing our position on invading sovereign nations. Sounds like he's preparing for more of the same. War. I really don't see why people can't see Obama for what he is: the Status Quo, but he looks and sounds different, he's in touch w/ the youth, so he must be ok? That may be, but I'm not going to give any president carte blanche because he's a cool guy. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong, but I don't have my fingers crossed just yet. Please just look at his foreign policy (God help the Pakistani poeple in the near future) and tell me you're not concerened. More war and less transparency is what I'm hearing there. But I guess this corp will be in place when we decimate Pakistan hunting down the already dead OBL, like Obama has promised. |
