Truckers See Signs Of Weak Holiday Season
Drivers Not Hauling Much Holiday Merchandise GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. -- Truck drivers said they can already tell it will be a weak holiday shopping season this year. Joe Rajkovacz, who works for the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, said drivers tell him that they're not hauling much holiday retail stuff. Rajkovacz said it's because retail buyers have not placed as many orders for this holiday season as in past years. "Many of the drivers will tell you there is no Christmas season right now," Rajkovacz told KMBC's Martin Augustine. "I'm seeing it real slow. There is not much freight out there moving at all. At least not at our end, anyway," truck driver John Mendenhall said. Truck driver Leo Feuerborn said he's still busy, but he's not hauling any holiday goods. "We don't depend so much on retail, like Wal-Mart and those kind of places. We don't pull any containers to them," Feuerborn said. Rajkovacz said he's worried that the bottom of the economy is still ahead for us. One bright spot for truck drivers is that the national average for diesel fuel is less than $3 a gallon for the first time in more than a year. In Kansas City, diesel has been selling for $2.66 a gallon. http://www.kmbc.com/news/17960388/detail.html |

I didn't think there'd be a holiday season.
Christmas? What's that? |
