![]() U.S. official fired at U.N. in Afghanistan Decision follows a widely publicized dispute over election fraud claims updated 5:48 p.m. MT, Wed., Sept . 30, 2009 UNITED NATIONS - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon fired the top American official at the U.N. mission in Afghanistan on Wednesday after a widely publicized dispute with his boss over how to deal with widespread fraud charges in the country's presidential election. U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas said in a statement that Ban decided to recall Peter Galbraith and end his appointment as the U.N.'s deputy special representative. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33096799..._central_asia/ Ghost polling stations were set up, far from where anyone could reach. There is still not an adequate recount or re-election planned. A lot of people on the ground worked to make sure the election would be fair, and, if not, reported with accuracy. |
