Outdated Computer Lingo
12 Words You Can Never Say in the Office ![]() by Carolyn Duffy Marsan Tuesday, August 25, 2009 If you're old enough to understand the reference in this headline -- George Carlin, anyone? -- then you're old enough to need a refresher course when it comes to talking about technology. We've put together a list of outdated tech terms, phrases that you shouldn't be using at work anymore because they will make you seem old. This is especially true if you're looking for a new job. For example, on an interview, you should be talking about "cloud computing," not "ASPs" even though they are basically the same thing. This list is useful for 20-somethings, too. Now when the senior person in the office uses one of these terms, you'll know what he's talking about. Continues with list: http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work...he-office.html |

I don't agree with any of that article - the definitions of the words are ok and they have thier place.
Is it supposed to be funny? A.. |

Ya, funny - about getting old - letting everyone know you are a dinosaur - or use modern terms and hide your ancient age.

I was a bit of a sh#t at the office and would use certain terms deliberately, like electric typewriter. I also liked to bug the younger staff by pulling out the yellow pages to look up phone numbers. (Like jesus christ, use the internet!!!)
Even so, these term transitions are useful to know for first meetings and business whatnot, so thanks for posting peaceandlove. Here's a funny Web Economy BS Generator. It has a list of verbs, adjectives, nouns. Just click 'make BS' - presto! http://www.thenetworkadministrator.com/meeting.htm Examples: drive e-business eyeballs facilitate end-to-end communities empower plug-and-play e-markets reintermediate granular networks I've actually heard a lot of this silly stuff! ![]() |
