I was also wondering about the emotions, worry, fear ?

My take on it. The event happened in the backyard. Significant. From sunny to dark, going out of light and into dark. The insects, I also feel hold a negative connotation.

The birds, significant in their size. Millions of insects being overtaken by hoards of birds, birds being the winged ones, representative of freedom, soaring spiritually, achieving new heights....

Insects are representative of worries, decay (insects that eat) Butterflies indicate transformation.

Add it up, you are overwhelmed by "decay, or a sliding into darkness, suppression, then the birds intervene and illiminate the darkness.
Punchline is, you can go into darkness, the choice is yours, even though you are seeing light, but there is assistance of "the light" to which you can go and transcend the darkness. The single bird at the end is your guide saying "We are here to help, and darkness, suppression is not insurmountable.
