The BloomEnergy segment made actually watch 60 Minutes for a change. Seems like a positive change.
There is one concept related to 'getting off the grid' that has always intrigued me. Once the grid is not in use for transmitting electricity, it has incredible beyond-broadband communications ability. ConEdison has tested equipment (years ago) for sending
data over power lines while they are still being used for electricity too. But if all that copper is not in use for electricity, it could be an already built, super-wide communications network.
Once the old control paradigm starts breaking up the benefits will flow in many ways.
