thanks alice.

i worked briefly for the national health service in the UK, in their IT department. probably the most shambolically disorganised, demoralised organisation i've ever seen. they were doing something similar, not quite so draconian (anyone seen alex collier's videos, interesting that that word is used in english to mean extremely bad and controlling), insofar as they were attempting to create a database of all patients' records. one saving grace in stuff like this is that the people putting it together tend to be so utterly driven by the profit motive that the actual end product tends to not even work (last i heard one of the 3 companies doing this in the UK was going bust due to the total failure of their part of the project), which rather defeats the whole purpose. a DNA database is at a whole different level than just patient records and should be fought tooth and nail...shall ask my partner to read the link and tell me more.
