I really have gone through the same process but sometimes it does seem like one is utterly stuck when alone. Having an opposite doesn't only give more energy but also the checks that, if no one is there to mirror you actively, you have to run (or let run) them passively. Meaning it's much harder to engage with the 'harsh truth' as one must humbly observe the world around one, while a partner usually slams it in your face.
I for once, like the slamming and can be more humble because of that.
