Time for a little reminiscing folks. It was back in late 1950s and we had just bought a secondhand washing machine. The lid was a bit tatty, so I decided to paint it with a nice shiny, white enamel. It was a round lid so I started at the outside edge and slowly worked my way to the centre.
While doing so, I was listening to the radio. The particular programme on that night was The Goon Show where Eccles and Bluebottle were on sentry duty. Bluebottle asked Eccles what the time was and I finished up making an absolute mess of the paint job in the centre of the lid. White enamel paint over the black handle, and drips of paint on the kitchen floor.
