I used to download mp3's back in the original napster days, then i discovered lossless audio (.shn, .flac) trading of uncopyrighted roio's aka
bootlegs on DC++ hubs which is truly a good thing because it lets people get an audience recording of a concert with no one profiting illegally.
And now not wishing to self-incriminate too much i'll just say thank god for good old usenet and thepiratebay!
