Civil defense called my husband about the tsunami heading to the islands around 6 am our time. He's on call and now out helping the patients get ready. He said you know it is serious when civil defense calls. Our Karen from here notified us at 1 am when she called to warn us about the tusanmi and Reinhard wanted me to thank her. The phone has been ringing all night. They have to evacuate patients who are in the low lying areas and make sure those who need oxygen are taken care of.
Thank goodness we have our solar generator if the power goes out. We are wondering how this may affect the power company. People don't realize that Hawaii is also dependent upon gas for electric and if the docks are damaged then there can be a problem getting food and fuel in. 97 percent of Hawaii's food is from the mainland.
Needless to say I've been pushing for folks to be prepared and feel comfortable that we will be alright. I truly feel for the folks in Chile and hope they get help.
