This is a highly subjective question.
If you ask anyone who is not defiled by monotheistic religion. I would say that you have already found the answer in the context of the question above.
According to christianity the serpent is a seducer and a symbol of evil. But evil in what way? He/she offers knowledge. Something that is not popular in any of the "bible thumbing" ideologies.
But why listen to a "heaten" like me? We were only around like 10.000 years before the christian "God" put his blood soaked thumb prints in the history books.
