Re: Regarding TV
I stopped watching TV many years ago, except for the occasional DVD or show just to spend time with my wife (we watch "Law & Order" together). She watches a little. I've literally gone years without even turning the thing on.
I don't miss it a bit, but then I am a reader. I love books. I get most of my news from the Internet...check the int'l press regularly. I read newspapers a couple times a week.
Programming indeed. The commercials are offensive for the most part, the comedies are insulting, the news is so preselected and predigested as to be meaningless, and the general tone is lowest-common-denom and manipulative as hell.
My children don't read, and it drives me crazy. The knowledge of the world is sitting on the shelves, and they'd rather watch TV or play electronic games. When I was a kid I spend whole days in the library - as well as outdoors. Oh well, I'm an old fogey. Old School is what kids call me today.
I see no value in TV. It's as poisonous to the mind as Kraft Macaroni & Cheese or Cialis is to the body. Even sports, which it's possible to care about passionately, is used to manipulate people into wasting huge amounts of time and spending huge amounts of money. Nope. I can live without it.
