A lot of people went into Prepper overload for Y2K. When the date came and past, due to the unstinting efforts of many well funded technology projects which were tediously boring, hard work but ultimately well executed, the problems with the Y2K computer bug did not show up.
Many saw, there were long lines at the local hardware stores for people returning generators and the like!
However, you will all do well to be prepared for some inconveniences, since even the most skeptical among us have observed some of mother natures recent outbursts (man made or not is irrelevant) and the trouble they can cause for even "civilized" places.
You need to be prepared for these things. The more high tech you are - the more you need to prepare.
Camping trips are good preparation - especially if you use them as practise runs. If your family dont know or want to know about this stuff, then dont tell them - but take a fun camping trip!
