It only has a half life of 7 years in the atmosphere. So if it starts to release it will break down very quickly...
It is being produced by natural processes all over the world all the time. Even farts contain methane gas. The amount of cows we have produce massive amounts of methane gas. For this reason we actually use methane gas as a predictor for life on other planets.
Occasionally large bubbles escape at once. This is a natural process. And not a problem. This happens on the ocean floor, in various lakes but also in marshlands.
Come on people. We can think of more likely natural disasters to scare ourselves ****less with right?
