From the point of view of those who wish to purchase gold or silver as a bargaining tool, both of which have no other value, why not buy diamonds? At least they have a use besides engagement rings. For instance, a couple could write their names on the last pane of glass left in their shattered home so that in the next few thousand years, archeologists digging in the ruins could say, "Hey look, some people have scrawled a message on this piece of glass.It says, 'Mr and Mrs Joe Bloggs died here.' We must build a memorial to them"

Just think - their names would go down permanently in future history.
