Yes Czymra you beat me to it, as i read the story i felt the mirror may be some back engineered technology like the Dan Buriche looking glass theory.
I have no doubt in my mind that ancient civilisations had all this technology and that today all this is lost to us, it's so sad to think for millions of years this scenario has been going over and over and yet we are still lost in the mists of time, still stumbling on regardless of our ancient knowledge, it's the powers that be today who have control over this planet who keep this knowledge from us, this is rightfully ours and if and when the time is right i feel this information will be given back to us, there is a higher hand in command and soon everything will be revealed.
