We just drove around and ended up somewhere where a local had given us a general direction for. We searched all day, never found anything so we decided to just hang out and play and swim where a bunch of locals were hanging out, to our surprise a local ended up telling us that where we were playing for hours, was in-fact 1 of these vortexes. Funny we ended up there, and had a great time, our children were so giddy and happy, and time felt as if it had just flown by. Ive always loved Sedona, but feel it is sad each time Ive been there over the years, it has really become over-built, and the airport is so loud and in your face, still a magical place, dont get me wrong, but really commercialized now! Glad you had such a wonderful experience!
I guess lucky for me I never saw it in its original condition so I don't have the before and after comparison in my mind. The good thing is that the airport vortexes where the only ones I went to that I encountered this invasiveness. The others where decent hikes, therefore the tourists mostly did not go to them. The key is to get up early and go hiking while everyone else is still waking up.
