US F-18 jet crashes in San Diego

A US military F-18 fighter jet has crashed into a residential area of San Diego, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has said.

The San Diego Fire Department described the scene of the crash as "a heavily populated area" near Interstate 805.

To me this is strange. It probably was an F-18, but I know for fact those pilots are trained to stay with the aircraft until they are sure it will not land in a residential area. I saw the aerial shot of the crash site, and if the pilot had done this, the jet would have crashed in a small wooded area between the subdivision and freeway. But hey, that pilot may have said f-it I am outta here!
