Disaster kit help
I would like to assemble a disaster kit similar to the ones that you can purchase here:
http://www.getreadygear.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=117 I think that I can assemble a better kit. I am hoping to find tips and advice in regards to this. I do not have a lot of money and I don't know where I'd go in case of a disaster or economic collapse. Any ideas? I think it would be cheaper to buy 2-3 backpacks and store as many supplies as possible in them. I am also considering stocking up on canned goods. Does anyone know of a place where I could buy military rations? I think that rations would be easier to store and hopefully use when compared to canned goods. Advice would be appreciated. Would like to start preparing as soon as possible. |
Re: Disaster kit help
Howdy Humble Janitor,
Good thinking w/ the DIY bag, that one looks like a temporary situation type of disaster kit. I think you're probably looking for something a bit more long term. I've been keeping an eye on the Bugout Bags thread in prep/advice, there's some interesting stuff there. Macguyver has a pretty good OP that adresses some of your questions. Best of luck w/ your bag. |

Re: Disaster kit help
The US military rations (Meals Ready to Eat or MRE) are technically US GOV property, so not legal to sell as i understand it. Although you will probably find them listed on Ebay from current/ex military, they will probably be listed as a 'collectible' or 'not for consumption' or something along those lines. There are also private sector versions of the MRE such as http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MRE125-1.html

Also try beprepared.com for more MREs and freeze dried food and ready made surival kits:cup:

Re: Disaster kit help
Eh, if all hell breaks loose, I can always load up on beef jerky. Could live off of the stuff and I think it would take up less weight as well.
Thanks for the link above though. |
