Older people and the infirm
What kinds of help can be provided for our older brothers and sisters?
I worry about the dear ones who cannot fend for themselves. There must be plans made to help. Community outreach resources... something... any ideas? Peace! |
Re: Older people and the infirm
This is a very good topic, OpenEyes.
I have considered this in many different ways since I've have worked as a geriatric nurse and am in the process of caring for elderly parents and grandparents. Currently there are many options available, in the US anyway for taking care of the elderly but they take a lot of ridiculous paperwork and having to give up most of the person's personal assets just to be in the system. And then you never know what kind of people will be coming into your home, though for the most part this has not been a problem for me. I have thought about how wonderful it would be to be able to have smaller communities where the elders helped to watch over the children and the young people respected and assisted the elderly and infirm. I read something about this in a native american book about indian cultures recently, the circle of life and how the elderly are closer in the circle to being childrn. It also goes along with the whole idea of having apprenticeships for young people, rather than the current high school system, which only less than a fourth of young people are able to focus on. Assisting and respecting, listening to the wisdom, of our elders has become such a lost art and I envision it becoming a new one in a new way. I know I haven't given any specific suggestions but the idea is to start the conversation. thank you for starting it! LTF :original: |
Re: Older people and the infirm
Hi, LearningToFly,
I worked in the geriatric health care field for many years too... I started out as an Activity Director in nursing homes and eventually went on the be an Ombudsman (a senior advocate) and a licensed hospice caregiver. There needs to be a Plan A and a Plan B. Plan A would be the gradual rescue and relocation of seniors and the infirm Plan B would be more aggressive in the case of actual war... I'm hoping that the Ground Crew Communities around the world will have plans in place when the time for action comes.... |
Re: Older people and the infirm
This is definitely a good reminder for the Ground Crews to have plans for moving and caring for elderly, debilitated and very young people in their disaster and community plans.
A suggestion may be to check with your local hospitals and long term care and/or other facilities to see what they already have in place and how you may be able to incorporate those plans or even add to or make their plans better. These would be in the "policies and procedures" manuals of each facility. |
Re: Older people and the infirm
this is a big area of concern...:( also what will happen to the people who are now dependent on medication when it no longer becomes readily available....

Re: Older people and the infirm
This new idea of life that we here on Avalon are creating is absolutely stunning. It is a complete restructuring of society. The details are enormous.. People from the medical fields will have to become involved. The enormity of this is unreal....

Re: Older people and the infirm
YES - this IS a very big subject and I am glad it is presented here. This makes my day. We must think about the physically, mentally as well as SPIRITUALLY disabled - and the elderly. Survival of the Fittest thinking never has come from LOVE. Who decides who is unfit? Too many counfouning variables to judge such things. Something to think about ~ something VERY big indeed.

Open Eyes, I agree with you to the highest depths of my being, I am in total awe of the intense depth of knowledge and insight being shared on this forum! I am rapidly feeling re-energized each day by the possibilities!!! if enough people can 'wake up and become informed and take action' in the next year....we could be witnessing a true 'awakening' ...it is very exciting and heartwarming! I think this is a great open topic ...i need to give more thought to this!! peace to all fire |

Re: Older people and the infirm
My wife will die without her prescriptions and I don't want to live without mine. She is almost unable to walk now and I will barely be able to without my arthritis meds.
I urge those in a similar situation to review their lives and get ready for what they expect to come after. Neither of us wants to live in the future we see coming. I'm sure this will seem depressing to some, but there is no point to holding on when it's time to go. And we must all take that voyage someday. I'm ready. |

Frame Dragger..
I started this thread because, I , too, am older and not well... In 1991, I was told by spirit (?) that this new restructuring would come about and that those of us in spirit would assist the loved ones left here on earth. I know that I won't be here in the physical body. I'm looking forward to the day when I can offer my help. Love to you and your dear wife... Cookie |
Re: Older people and the infirm
Dear Cookie,
Yes, that is a good thought indeed. I will try to hold it my mind. In these trying times my wife and I have become much closer, and that is a great consolation. Best wishes to you and yours, Mike |
Re: Older people and the infirm
there are so many people who rely on manufactured medication,
what will they do if they can't get their meds? older, children, any age. i cared for my grandmother in her last two years and she had so many darn pills to take, it took almost 10 minutes to get them all down. most people i know take something daily. stop and think about it for just a moment... i try so very hard to NOT worry about anything, just positive thoughts and good vibrations! but i am very concerned. i don't want ANYONE to suffer! :wub2: |
