Important Earthquake advice

http://www.amerrescue.org/
The last thing you should do is 'Duck and Cover' apparently.
This is the rescue site, and contradicts the drill advice given to millions recently.
"Duck and Cover is outdated and should not be used. Standing in doorways during an earthquake is dangerous.
The most experienced rescue organization in the world, American Rescue Team International of San Francisco, California and its founder, Doug Copp, explain in detail new emergency preparedness procedures that can save lives during disasters. Youll see actual footage of earthquake rescues, building collapse demonstration and in general, a new and effective way of preparing for earthquakes and natural or man-made disasters. "
Why is this logical advice not being taken on board by PTB/FEMA etc?

The web bots mentioned coming earthquakes in early December.
See http://www.urbansurvival.com/week.htm Friday 21st November.
Please take note.

Re: Important Earthquake advice

Thanks for the very important info.
Of note also: Jim Berkland, a retired geologist, was on Coast to Coast last night and his window of time for a major quake is 12/10 to 12/17. He has people tracking strange animal behavior and lost pets. This seems to preceed earthquakes.

I've done some more research into Doug Copp, and it seems he has been challenged about his guidance.
What he says seems to make sense though....

"Duck and Cover" is the old Atom Bomb drill they used to teach us in Elementary School. Wouldn't work too well if the Bomb dropped either!

No transcript? Booooooo!

Dude, there are people on here who cannot solely rely on un-subtitled youtube videos (unlike the rest of you).

Apologies:confused:
I read the great list of stuff to find out more - the video was just a trailer. The real info was all down the page. Easy!

Re: Important Earthquake advice

Q: What are the 15 safest places to be in an earthquake? (The places most people survive.)

A: 1) Outside in the middle of a field where nothing can fall on top of you.
2) Outside in the middle of the street where falling glass can't reach you.
3) On a seismic resistant platform such as a boat.
4) On the top floor of a wooden building.
5) On the top floor of a concrete building
6) in the space between 2 large objects (between twin beds, between 2 cars, between 2 rows of desks).
7) Next to an office bank vault or stack of paper.
8) Next to a squashed vehicle
9) At the foot of a bed
10) In front of a hotel lobby counter or bar counter.
11) In front of a sofa.
12) Next to Kitchen Cabinets
13) Next to a big bulky object like a piece of machinery, fridge, stove.
14) Next to a large carrying beam
15) In the subterranean exterior perimeter of a building.

I wonder if the old advice of being in a bathtub with a mattress on top of you still applies?

alyscat 11-23-2008 03:57 PM

Re: Important Earthquake advice

Probably - most tubs have or had a metal body, covered in porcelain. The metal would extend higher than you, and would provide a "vault" (the triangle of life, as he calls it) - the mattress would protect you further from anything dropping from above. Of course, if you're in a cheap plastic tub (like an RV tub) nothing above applies.
