Are you Religious?

This isn't to trigger any disagreements but to find out a little more from ourselves here at Avalon and see where our belief systems come from.

If you wish to post please don't be judgemental...an opinon may be expressed

Re: Are you Religious?

As I see it, I have some Buddhist beliefs, and some of the New Agers (which are quite the mesh of many beliefs), along with some unique ideas of my own toward reality, but as mentioned in the Law of One (which I came into my own realization during a 'trip' of significant revelation outside of the series), "humans have a fondness for naming." It's one of those things I feel should not be defined. It is what it is.

And yes, I voted other.

Namaste, Kameraden,

I used to be religious from Childhood - Islam.
I have always been rather a Humanist, though.
Since a couple of months(July 2008), when i discovered the Teachings of Herr Meier - which Teachings my Inner Self is in Peace with - i try, as much as i can, to adjust myself to the Laws of Creation.

Peace and Wisdom.

Re: Are you Religious?

I was raised Christian/Roman Catholic. Pre-school, grade school, high school (jesuit there AHHHHH!).
My parents are good people. My dad was in the seminary studying to become a priest when he was drafted into the Vietnam war. My mom was in the convent when she met my dad and then decided not to become a nun.
Needless to say, I was a rebelious youth. Definitely a handful for my parents.

I suppose now I am an agnostic. I am simply skeptical of anyone who tells me that they know what will happen when I die.

"Have you ever died before?"
"No, o.k., so you've spoken w/ someone who has?"
"No, o.k., so you've read about it in a book?"
"Alright then that sounds plausible. I now subscribe to all kinds of things that I will never research and just call faith."

I have some very interesting discussions w/ my parents these days.
There is something to be said for faith I suppose. I have faith in my parents, in my friends, in humanity. I cannot have faith in 3rd hand knowledge though.
Imo, religion, in our society anyway, is a cop out. A shortcut of sorts in lieu of doing your real spiritual homework.

peace.

Re: Are you Religious?

What kind of a poll is this, listing only christianity and buddhism as religions, with all the rest falling into "other"? Just another one with quite predictable results. With these choices it is clear that the "other" category will be the largest. Interesting idea to make this poll, but with these limited choices it won't tell you much, I'm afraid.

I have studied judaism, christianity, islam, buddhism, hinduism, taoism, konfucianism, zen, shinto, and many other belief systems that aren't 'religious.' So naturally, I'm not religious [as it becomes apparent that any religious institution is quite unnecessary and puts something between you and god, rather than getting you closer], and I'm not an atheist. Looks like I'm an "Other."

Re: Are you Religious?

So far as I can tell, all religions are just different paths going to the same place, and according to the lawofone there is no right or wrong way- because everyone gets there eventually. Given the duality that governs 3rd dimension, humans will always have conflict over who is wrong or right.
That is, until they are ready:original:

I voted "other" too... simply because it best describes that I'm not Buddhist/Catholic/Christian.

I believe in something, but not sure that conventional religious tags would cover it. I used to say that I was Atheist because I didn't believe in a "God", and I still don't believe in one specific "God", probably because too many people in this world use that name to fight with others who don't have the same specific belief system as they do (not that I have a problem with people being staunch in their beliefs, but faith and beliefs are individual choices and no one person should be punished ,from my point of view, for the faith that they are drawn to). I personally have faith in a guidance that I feel, and not the rigid teachings or laws of some religions. Maybe the word that would best describe my faith is Agnostic.

However, I agree with previous comments that the limited choices given do not even begin to cover all of the different faith/belief systems and "other" was almost always going to be the winner here, but what I do think that it shows is that the majority of people here who have voted do not conform with most commercial (for want of a better word, potentially "organised") of religions, and in that sense, it is refreshing to find a group of people who know and understand more than what is handed to them on a plate in terms of religious teachings. So thank you, I appreciate finding that in these terms I am not alone in my diversities :thumb_yello:

Re: Are you Religious?

Apologies for the double post, my computer decides to do that from time to time, something I am looking into.

Just to clarify (after re-reading my post I feel that I should), I am not saying that it only good to be surrounded by people with diverse or uncommon religious beliefs or faiths. It is very refreshing to be surrounded by people who believe in something, full stop.

How can there be "Christian and Roman Catholic"? Doesn't the Catholics belive in being a Christian. Or... Does the Catholics belive in their own belive-religion. And no, I do not belive being a "christian", but I do belive in the Almighty God and Jesus.

Re: Are you Religious?

why is there no 'no' option? i'm not in the 'other' category because i follow no religion, but that doesn't make me an atheist. this poll would more appropriately be called 'which religion are you' rather than simply 'are you religious.'

so my answer is no, i'm not religious. i wanted to vote so i thought i'd type mine in

Nope, the bible has always scared me!, I new there was something strange about it when I would see it in all the hotel and motel rooms. I'd take it and throw it under the bed so I wouldn't have to see it.
