Question for Moderators
 

i would like to know what is the follow up on "reported posts"?

Is there any contact that can be expected after a member reports a post?

Do all mods get to see it?

Is it discussed amongst you?



as a suggestion..maybe even an auto response...just to know it is at least getting read and perhaps paid attention to...would be appreciated..

Reported posts get sent to all moderators and admins. We are however volunteers and are not always available to act. With the recent arrivals of several new mods the response time has gotten better.

Your suggestion of a autoresponse will be considered, its not a bad idea. However a personal response from the mod who responds is up to the individual moderator who takes action.

In some cases I will respond to a reported post, fix the issue but never reply to the original reporter. I will however reply if no action is taken or the report isnt clear or it is unfounded.

Hi Céline,

When someone 'reports' a post a message is sent to all moderators. Normally the moderators are on top of and are discussing a situation before a reported post is made.

I know recently you sent in two reported posts and they were recognized by the moderating team.

It may be difficult to activate an autoresponse as you would receive an e-mail from ALL the moderators and admin staff. I'm not sure that would be very helpful to you and if you had an autoresponder then the e-mails would go back and forth a couple of times which could double or triple these messages.

However, I'm sure we'll discuss how we can leave our members rest assured knowing that they are being heard.

Recently I implemented a system on where each reported post automatically starts a thread with a copy of that post in the moderator area of this forum. This ensures that even though the email system may be having a bad day, the moderators all see the posts. It is then possible for the moderators to have an orderly reponse to the reported post (discussion if necessary).

A very large number of people accidentally report posts when what they meant to do was reply to them (this is obvious from the comments they leave with the report).

Where that is obvious we tend to ignore such reports.

Some people abuse the report post system to get priority attention of the moderators. Those posts tend to get ignored as well. PM works just as well.

The volume of reported posts that require moderator attention is very low.

I like the "report a post" as all moderators get to see a copy from moment one.

I prefer a reported post since it avoids any notion of people having/exploiting special channels with any particular moderator/administrator.

The moderators have been accussed of favouritism more than once !

May i suggest a thread..or section, made for interaction between mods and members...some may just be curious..others may have issues..

Often i notice mod topics , in threads ...

Having a special place to do this might help in the growth of PA

Celine, that is not the first time such a suggestion has been made, but its not about reported posts anymore?

The vast majority of users on this forum are happy to simply read (for free just like they always did). People who really want to moderate can volunteer - by PMing Karen. Others get asked.

In my personal opinion the forum is not big enough to need a middle tier - a sort of steering group. Maybe if it got ten times larger then there could be a need. Assuming the internet does not become dysfunctional, that could happen one day - but then the operating costs of the infrastructure to support that kind of volume may impede such development anyway.
