The current mess in Iran

We need to be careful what we wish for in regards to the riots after the outcome of the Iranian election.

I was checking out ATS and one thread showed a video of Iranian protesters throwing rocks at an outnumbered security force (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/8111670.stm). This thread took on a cheerleader mentality. What many people there (and in general) fail to grasp is the following:

1. This is not a revolution of or for the Iranian people. They are supporters of a political ideology that differs from that of Mahmoud and his supporters.

2. The way these protests are being presented is highly suspect, especially the focus of attention by western nations/agencies on this. It's highly possible that Israel is watching these protests closely in hopes that the Iranians take care of the "problem" on their own.

3. The BBC allegedly took a photo of a pro-Mahmoud demonstration, clipped him out of it and tried to pass it off as a rally of anti-Mahmoud protesters (http://www.propagandamatrix.com/arti...propaganda.htm).

We need to be careful about calling for armed demonstration/revolution. There are forces at work that people would be playing into if they chose such a path.

It is my hope that Iranians will get another chance to vote. However, it is not my fight and it should not the fight of western nations. Let the Iranians fight their battles. They must have seen the light because they're already doing so.

ATS is the main hub for the government sponsored alternative media disinformation campaign. If you see it on there it is no more credible than if you see it on Fox News.

Whilst that is very likely, I agree in principle with what HJ has said:

1) You do have to be careful what you "wish" for

2) Don't believe the news so easily - question everything

3) There is clearly a complex and potentially transforming process going on here and as with many cases like this a certain amount of chaos and disorder is necessary for that to happen.

A..
