Police Want Thumbprint At Traffic Stop

Electronic Citations Will Save Money, Say Metro Police

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- If you've gotten any type of traffic ticket, you know the drill. The officer writes out the citation, explains what it says and then asks for your signature.

But in the near future, Metro police might not be offering a pen.
"As far as the citizen is concerned, you would probably never notice the difference other than the device the officer would present you with," said Capt. Mike Hagar.

Besides the cost savings, taking a thumbprint could allow police to quickly identify someone who's wanted for another crime if they're pulled over for a routine traffic stop, said Metro police.
