tonite's theme in the lounge ... a sing along to leaking pipes and creaking bones ...

noooo :nono: "thumbs" was LAST NITE ... :wall:
:roll1:

so take a sip of your beverage :beer:and here we go ...

To commemorate her birthday , actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at
Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP.
One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favorite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

don't be shy ... come out of your shells ... sing LOUD ...

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd
that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores.

bravo avalonians ... you sing well !!! :flowers2:
now let's get back to our beverages at hand ... :wink2:

That was CHAMPION, futureyes - I sang my lungs out and had to take two pills to get my breath back. Then I had to lie down for a bit.

Mind you, that was what happened when I saw the picture that luminari posted. Apart from being an impossible position for me to get into, if I could do it, I'd never be able to straighten up again.

:roll1:

ah ha brinty ... read your first sentence and before reading your second one i thought ... nnoooo ... singing your lungs out was NOT why brinty had to take two pills ... :nono:

brinty had to take two pills cos of luminari's picture of that poor broken girl ... that's just not right ...

i can see how her photo would upset you like that ... poor girl ... poor brinty ... :lmao:

luminari will have to keep in mind that you can lose your breath like that brinty ... :sweatdrop:

good singin though brinty ... could hear ya from here ... :original:

now rest brinty ... rest your lungs ...

sheesh ... men and their lungs and their ... thumbs ... :roll1:

I love Julie Andrews and "The Sound of Music", which means I can post this again, along the same lines as Doe a deer, a female deer, ray a drop of golden sun, and so on! HaHa

Homer is driving home after downing a few at
the local pub.

He turns a corner and much to his horror he sees a tree in the middle of
the road.

He swerves to avoid it and almost too late realizes that there is yet
another tree directly in his path.

He swerves again and discovers that his drive home has turned into a
slalom course, causing him to veer from side to side to avoid all the
trees.

Moments later he hears the sound of a police siren and brings his car to
a stop.

The officer, approaches Homer's car and asks him what on earth he was
doing.

Homer tells his story of the trees in the road when the officer stops
him mid sentence and says, "Fer Chris sakes, Homer, that's yer air
freshener!"

Re: _AVALON LOUNGE_ Open 24 hours

When filming the sound of music in the scene where Liezel is dancing in the gazebo during the song 'I Am Sixteen Going On Seventeen', where she dances from bench to bench, she actually went through one of the panes of glass on the first jump and sprained her ankle because there were two pairs of shoes she had for that scene (one with rubber grips and one without). The ones with rubber grip were meant for the actual filming NOT the rehearsal but she had been rehearsing with the ones without rubber grip and someone forgot to change them. She was OK but she had to do the dance with a bandage on her ankle.

In the boating scene, Kym Karath (Gretl) nearly drowned when she fell in the water. The scene originally called for Julie Andrews (Maria) to carry her out of the water as Kym couldn't swim yet, but Andrews fell out of the wrong side of the boat. In fact, the scene had to stop production in order to rescue Kym. In the movie, you'll see Heather Menzies (Louisa) carrying her out, whom Kym threw up on after swallowing so much water.

When Julie Andrews is singing "I Have Confidence" she trips. The trip was completely accidental, and not choreographed, but the director felt it was in character, so he left it in.

The front of the von Trapp house and the back of the house are actually two different houses. Also, the gazebo (which belongs to the house used for the back shots) is actually across a river from the house. (You can take the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg.)

When Liesl is dancing with Rolf in the gazebo, he holds her hand as she skips lightly from bench to bench. Look closely at her ankles: one of them is wrapped with an Ace bandage because it went through the glass during the rehearsal of that scene.

Edelweiss" was the last song Oscar Hammerstein wrote before his death.

Audrey Hepburn and Doris Day were both considered for the role of Maria.

The von Trapps actually escaped via train, en route to their next performance as part of their tour. They did not escape while being chased through the mountains

Re: _AVALON LOUNGE_ Open 24 hours

Poor old Jim was a sandwich short of a picnic - probably caused by the amount of alcohol he had consumed in his lifetime. One night, as he staggered home from the local bar following the white line in the middle of the road, he saw a solitary light coming towards him. He recognised the sound of a motorbike engine and so, he staggered to one side to let it pass by. Unfortunately the motorbike had a sidecar attached and it hit poor old Jim knocking him to the ground.

Badly shaken, Jim took a few weeks to recover from his minor, but painful injuries. After his next binge, he was once more staggering home along the centre line when he saw a solitary light coming towards him. Remembering his last encounter with a single light, he staggered to the other side of the white line. Unfortunately, this time it was a car with only one headlight working. Jim ended up in hospital for a couple of weeks.

About a month later he had another bout of drinking. On his wobbly path following the white line, he saw two lights coming towards him. Recalling his experiences when dodging solitary lights, he chose to stay on the white line and not try to avoid the oncoming vehicle.

That was the last time poor old Jim had a drinking problem - you see, it was a truck coming down the centre of the road.

How to tell the sex of a fly?

A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter."What are you doing?" She asked."Hunting Flies" He responded."Oh. Killing any?" She asked."Yep, 3 males, 2 Females," he replied.Intrigued, she asked. "How can you tell?"He responded, "3 were on a beer can, 2 were on the phone."

Luminari 02-07-2009 01:36 AM

Re: _AVALON LOUNGE_ Open 24 hours

Dan! oh my god 'SIGNS' ??!
Signs is a classic example of Hollywoods contempt for the truth and evil malicious agenda to associate extraterrestrial life with 'Alien Invasion' and scary negative aliens...

An outrageous insult to the CIRCLEMAKERS and the whole Crop Circle phenomenon of PEACE and ENLIGHTENMENT.

And an outrageous attempt to associate UFO's and space visitors with FEAR

This will go down with 'Independance Day' as one of the most disgraceful manipulative negative PR movies of all time and extremely damaging to our reputation here on Earth.

As a purely fictional story with quality actors I agree it is a good movie Dan buddy so sorry to have a rant but as long as you are aware how damaging this movie has been to the collective psyche promoting FEAR and disrespecting our space brothers good deeds to help us via Crop Circles.

You even mention Crop Circles to the average drooling moron on the street and this sick movie is probably their only point of reference.
