Compassion

Compassion is the ultimate and most meaningful embodiment of emotional maturity. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak and deepest reach in his or her search for self-fulfillment.

Compassion is not sentiment but is making justice and doing works of mercy. Compassion is not a moral commandment but a flow and overflow of the fullest human and divine energies.

Compassion is a human emotion prompted by the pain of others. More vigorous than empathy, the feeling commonly gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another's suffering.

Compassion is one of those necessary ingredients to elevate the suffering we as humanity must start exercising....if we could lose the egos long enough to understand that it would ease some of the suffering and create a road to healing...a road that this world is in desperate need of..the healing would begin....

Let some true healing begin
Show some compassion

When one deliberately seeks to inflict pain....it's difficult to show compassion..but I did send him blessings after the incident...I sent him love on the highest ....on his page...with no real response. You can only do so much for someone.
Then again Luminari..maybe you were not aware that I did show some compassion in the incident ...to no avail

I'm sure you have pure intent.

It was not meant to be condescending...it was meant to be a reminder....as compassion seems to be lacking lately
Sorry if it has offended you..it is not personal to anyone in particular...just a reminder

When I see bombs exploding, and children crying...I see the need for compassion

I digress

Don't delete it! Compassion is a great thing! I'll have compassion for the Chicago Bears after the Minnesota Vikings kick their butts today!! Go Vikes!
But I won't show compassion for nutcases like Benjamin (full of it) Fulford, or Bill (the Beagle) Deagle, because they're misleading people with their hogwash. So I guess I'm riding the compassion fence, LOL

Brook. please leave this thread....it is an important point compassion. Our world is in so much need of compassion, from Mother Earth to Humanity. So much suffering is dolled out every day on innocent victims, its heartbreaking.

I would love to see meditation being taught in the schools at an early age & lectures on compassion, kindness & respect for each other and the planet.

Brook has requested this thread to be deleted, the past couple posts were positive and in alignment with her original intent so for now i'll leave it and see.

I suppose as long as it remains in the interest of compassion...leave it. It has been requested me three times, not to remove it..so let it stand.

Part 1 of 5 The Practice of Compassion

Thank you for this thread Brook :thumb_yello:

"An essential method to begin acting with compassion is to transform negative thoughts into positive ones. A positive attitude goes a long way to help achieve this. Jealousy, envy, hate, anger, and making snap judgments against people just because they are different from us... these are examples of some negative attitudes that must be adjusted into positive ones to promote compassion. When we quit letting ourselves be ruled so much by those negative attitudes, we not only find it easier to practice compassion, but we also find that we receive a surprising amount of compassion, as well. We all need compassion in our lives to some extent. Practicing it is a sure way to “reap what you sow.”

from the book of Marie Claire Wilson " Compassion in Budhism "

Re: Part 1 of 5 The Practice of Compassion

The Buddha taught the following to his son Rahula

"Rahula, practice loving kindness to overcome anger. Loving kindness has the capacity to bring happiness to others without demanding anything in return.
Practice compassion to overcome cruelty. Compassion has the capacity to remove the suffering of others without expecting anything in return.
Practice sympathetic joy to overcome hatred. Sympathetic joy arises when one rejoices over the happiness of others and wishes others well-being and success.
Practice non-attachment to overcome prejudice. Non-attachment is the way of looking at all things openly and equally. This is because that is. Myself and others are not separate. Do not reject one thing only to chase after another.
I call these the four immeasurables. Practice them and you will become a refreshing source of vitality and happiness for others."

Re: Compassion

And we can have compassion for ourselves: " I was walking blind for so long, but I have made it to here" "The way I responded yesterday is not the way I respond today because of where I am now on my path." " I am in Love now and also have great compassion for ones still walking blind. "

Nice thread, Brook. Thank you.

Re: Compassion

Have you run into somebody lately who was in pain? someone who's world was somehow rocked by a major event in their life?

And did you show them compassion? or did you side step the subject, so as not to inflict any more pain?

I know I have...I did not want to bring anything up in those instances as it is awkward, and again might cause further pain.

Today I was helping a lady whose husband had just died...I was helping her sort an affair, that would ease things for her. I was in no way obligated to discuss the subject of her husbands death. Just the matters at hand.

I told her that I was sorry for her loss...and asked if there was anything else I could do to help. she said, no she was fine with what I had done so far. but then she started talking about her loss, and you could see in her face that she wanted to talk about it, because everybody else around her was side stepping the subject. It was a look of relief, that she had someone to talk to about it with. And she talked for about 20 minutes, about the actual event of losing her husband. He had had cancer, and it was painfully slow for her to watch, let alone go through. she did not cry..she just needed to talk. She was craving compassion..and was not getting it from the ones around her, as they were afraid to broach the subject.

This is just one way we, myself included..can reach out and show compassion...it really does heal :wub2:

Re: Compassion

Yes Mudra you can be compassionate about many separate things, but in my original mind, to be truly compassionate, one doesn't segregate with duality. "True compassion embraces all that is." It is that simple and there is no need to separate it to define it as it is a state of being that embraces all that is. You can be however compassionate about something but that is a program that operates from the template of duality. Not oneness and any one is welcomed to quote me on that.

Again, TRUE COMPASSION EMBRACES ALL THAT IS!

How's that for originality?

Compassionately,

Lionhawk

An individual is capable of both great
compassion and great indifference.
He has it within his means to nourish the
former and outgrow the latter

This is a nice quote from someone called Norman Cousins.

Here is another good one I found: "The dew of compassion is a tear...." - Lord Byron.

The opening paragraph of the original post is I beleive is a quote from Arthur Jersild

And one I really like:

"Out of compassion I destroy the darkness of their ignorance. From within them I light the lamp of wisdom and dispel all darkness from their lives...." - Bhagavad Gita.
