Re: Do you own a gun or weapon?

i am not judgemental on people having firearms if that is what is true and right for them ...

i do though object to parents who have weapons in their homes but do not store them safely ...

when i was ten ... i watched my two friends go into one of their homes and come out with two guns ... easy peasy ...

we were all out on the front lawn ... the two boys pretended they were in the days of the old west ... one on either side of the lawn ...

someone yelled "draw" ... and they did ... they drew their guns and fired ... both who never handled weapons prior shot at the other ...

both shot with precision ...

both guns were loaded ...

it was the day i thought the world stopped ... to see my two friends lying on their lawn ... lifeless ... not pretending anymore ...

i object to weapons not stored properly away from young ones ...

read about incidents like this from time to time ... send shivers up my spine ...

I don't think having a gun would necessarily attract the circumstances to use it, but rather the fear would.
No place for fear in all this love. Just confidence in smooth here-and-now-ness.

What is an equalizer?

This is awful :( I'm sorry you have this memory.

Re: Do you own a gun or weapon?

A beautiful young woman who worked for me was being pulled out of her car window by a man, while her boyfriend was held down - through the window - by another man. Her boyfriend somehow got ahold of the pepper spray she kept in the ashtray, and sprayed one of them - and they ran away.

After that, we all bought the pepper spray. But it only works if you carry it, right? BC all the times I was threatened, of course I didn't have the stuff with me. I still have it, 20 yrs later, but never used it. I would say I would use the spray if I needed to.

Does anyone know if pepper spray is legal in Canada. I heard rumour some time ago that it was banned? I would like to get a small can of it, that I can tuck in my backpack when I go hiking etc.

you can buy bear scare, which is a concentrate pepper spray. any good outdoors store can supply that, but, DON'T test it.
i found out the hard way and opened up a very short blast. i don't know if it'd stop a bear, but it sure as heck would slow down a human. nasty sh*t!!

Re: Do you own a gun or weapon?

No because I don't see the point of owning one. If someone came after me, they'd just confisicate it anyway.

Guns have nothing to do with spirituality either.

Tks....I'll check out Candadian Tire first. Yes, I'm concerned about stopping a human than a bear.:mfr_lol:

Re: Do you own a gun or weapon?

Great post Dakini. Just to let you know some of the things that have happened here in Australia. On the 28th of April 1996, in Port Arthur, Tasmania, a man Martin Bryant killed 35 people and mamed many others. I won't give you all the details, you don't need to know that, but since then, the government changed the law on guns, And i quote " The central provisions of the reforms were the ban on semi-automatic rifles and pump action shotguns, accompanied by gun amnesties and two national buybacks, which together saw some 820,000 guns destroyed. Because of their rapid firepower, semi-automatics are the guns of choice for those intent on killing many people quickly. John Howard introduced the reforms to prevent US-style mass killings, not primarily to prevent criminal or domestic gun homicides or gun suicides."

In the 12 years since the law reforms, there have been no mass shootings. But there is also evidence of wider collateral benefits in reduced gun deaths overall. While the rate of firearm homicide was reducing in Australia by an average of 3% per year prior to the law reforms, this more than doubled to 7.5% per year after the introduction of the new laws, although to the delight of our local gun lobby, this failed to reach statistical significance simply because of the low statistical power inherent in the small numbers involved.

Gun deaths in Australia are dominated by suicides, with about 79% of all gun fatalities, followed by 15% homicides and 2% unintentional shootings. Suicide with guns has what coroners euphemistically call a very high "completion rate". When those attempting suicide use a gun, they don't need a semi-automatic. The trigger gets pulled once, so a single shot suffices, from any gun that remained unaffected by the law reforms. So by removing only semi-automatics, we really wouldn’t expect any decline in gun suicides.

Yet as with gun homicides, firearm suicides in males declined from 3.4 deaths per 100,000 person years in 1997 to 1.3 per 100,000, a decline of 59.9%. The rate of all other suicides declined from 19.9 deaths per 100,000 in 1997 to 15.0 per 100,000 in 2005, a 24.5% decline, less than half that for gun suicides.

Farmers , members of gun clubs, security staff etc are still allowed to own a gun, but the levels of restrictions are enormous.

Unfortunatelly, if the s--t hits the fan in 2012 and enough people survive, those that are prepared with food and resources, will have to defend themselves from those marauders intent in taking what someone else has.

I am not taking sides here, but if i was an american, i would purchase a gun before the laws change. In Australia, if you know the right people, you can get anything.

Henry

To me, buying a gun means buying into a culture of fear and I'm not interested in doing so.

Re: Do you own a gun or weapon?

Don't get me wrong, i do not like guns and will never buy one. Some people seen to think they need one IMHO.
Last year in Sydney we had the World Youth Tour with the Pope visiting and approx 350,000 Catholics visiting the state.
I had a tour with a Polish priest that lived in Canada. He had 6 guns, 4 rifles and two hand guns. I asked him "isn't that against the Catholic church"?
His reply was that " guns don't kill people, people kill people ".
I still don't understand......................:nono:

I would go with bear scare. I have been hit with pepper spray. and its not a nice exp. it didn't stop me.

with my gun purchase. it was not about fear. it is about survival. just in case. don't want my food, water, family, my life, or others beings harmed or taken or harassed. I have no intention in using it. and in today's day and age. one never knows. could be a war or revolution here in the usa. I dough it. but you never know. and if there are concentration camps. Ill take my chances in the woods. no fear. survival and protection. of self and others.

cheers

I think I will at least get the bear scare.

Yeah, I got one half drop of the pepp. spray in my eye one day and my eye teared and stung for an hour - I would imagine it really pisses off the

It appears that men are the ones who will take up arms to protect themselves and those they love. And for many, the country and freedom they love.

I am from a long lineage military family - even as far back as being directly linked to Rob Roy on my mother's side. My father's side, well, mostly the kind we need to keep AWAY from guns :original:, however, my dad was retired from the armed forces, as is my brother, and my other brother was in the Marines in Vietnam and did not come home - along with my great grandfather in WWI, with relatives on that side in the civil war. When my dad was alive he had a gun.

So this is something that is carried in our DNA. And I think it is much more strongly expressed in men. I understood my father, the men of his generation, and my brother much better, after I saw the movie Platoon, Saving Private Ryan (albeit hollywood shiny versions), and reading first accounts of war. I realized only a small part of what men have been required to do in this world. And are currently doing in the Middle East. And I can say I don't think most women have it in them to do it.

Men understand brotherhood - they will die for one another - but will women die for another woman? For their family they are known to, but in past wars? How the current generation of female soldiers is doing it is beyond my capability.

In general, bc so many men have responded to this thread, it seems most women are depending on their men to protect them from the level of harm
that a gun will remedy.

great thread dakini ...

personally i am not of the expectation of any man ... or woman ... to protect me ...
not writing this from ego ... i just know there will come a time whereby i will be in a position to have to do this for my self ... goodness knows i have had enough practise ... this life and past ones ...
and it won't be from my bow which i have chosen not to be rid of ...
it will just be ... from within ...

I always like reading your posts.

I think just being raised by two parents who protected me is still resonating. My dad was fearless of people (but not the unseen - he was waaaaay too spooked out to deal with this :original:). And my mom - well, she is the spiritual warrior - from an early age, it was in MY bedroom and around ME that the unseen beings congregated. For the most part, when she heard something going on or me speaking (or screaming), I could depend on her to run up the stairs and have her protecting presence, for what it was worth, offered to me.

Maybe I'm secretly wishing for male protection. But I know I have protection on many fronts, sometimes it is the intruders in the 3D that concern me. lately.

i understand ... i have not had a similar experience of parents or any adult figure protecting me ... have had to protect my own self all my life ... much confusion with this concept growing up but now i know everything for a reason ... i have no regrets ... rather greater strength and courage because of it ...

but yes ... sometimes i think back and dream that there would have been someone to take me under their wing ... that's always a good feeling ...

and what you say resonates with me ... i have no fear of any entities i interact with ... none ...
moreso are the 3d intruders that i have to think twice about ...
not the others ...
guess that's why i still keep the bow ... just in case :wink2:

Brings a few tears to my heart to read you didn't have some level of human protection as a child.

It does feel as if you have been supremely protected from the other dimensions.

thanks again dakini ...

this is my fear when i post my truth ... others feeling bad about it ...
it was what it was and everything is for a reason and i am now in SUCH a true and right place with all of it ...
honestly dakini ... i feel blessed to have experienced all that i had in my life the way it was presented ...
i couldn't imagine who i'd be without my past ...
i love life ... all life ... including mine ...
and i also know ... everyone will heal their own individual lives and in doing so ... we will all heal this planet together ...

and now this is way off topic from weapons ...

thanks dakini ...

your healing is my healing is the planet's healing ...

Nope, I don`t own a gun or anything designed to cause harm. Come to think of it, I will never own nor handle one.

Only professionals should carry such things and it should be left there.

It causes more bad than good to personally own one yourself. They may even attract more trouble than they deter.

Mark is not a fan of guns or other weapons that are easily available to the public.
